A Catherine Blessing
Commissioned by All Hallows’ School, Brisbane, the text for this work is adapted from the writings of Catherine McAuley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy order: “may God’s mercy bless and protect us all.” A versatile Taizé-style chant, suitable for use in a range of liturgical services. Peaceful and contemplative.
This poignant text by American early-20th century poet, Sara Teasdale, has been set by Timothy Sherlock in a folk-jazz style. A great concert selection for upper secondary school and adult female choruses, the sadness of the melodic lines match the reflective words that mourn a love lost. Add a pizzicato string bass to the texture to create a contemporary folk-jazz feel. Your singers will love this piece!

Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s much-loved sonnet is set here for three part female chorus with piano accompaniment. The harmonies are very much inspired by French impressionism with sumptuous 9th chords and the gentle shifts from major to minor. Secondary school and adult choirs have enjoyed performing this piece since it was composed in 1994, and it has become a favourite piece for wedding ceremonies. Optional string quartet accompaniment is also available upon request. Arranged for SATB, as well.

Commissioned for the 2017 Australian National Choral Association (ANCA) ChoralFest, this inspirational work for SAB choir features a legato verse and refrain providing young singers with the opportunity to sing full phrases in legato style. After the second refrain, the piece moves into a gospel-style call and response section giving opportunities for small group or soloists to be featured. Building to a strong gospel ending, So Let Us Sing! is a perfect selection for speech and award nights, graduation services and choral concerts of all kinds. The Nightingale Call
This piece started life as a three part canon for equal voices and has now been transformed into an SSA art song for choir and piano. Over the centuries, the nightingale’s alluring call has been the subject of poems, songs and folk tales. In this treatment, the singers become nightingales singing a repeated birdcall under an Impressionistic piano accompaniment. The Suscipe of Catherine McAuley
Catherine McAuley was the Irish founder of the Sisters of Mercy order and her Suscipe prayer is revered by Mercy schools and institutions across the world. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the founding of All Hallows’ School in Brisbane, Timothy Sherlock composed this setting of the prayer for SSA choir and piano. Optional string quartet accompaniment is also available.
